Ever have one of those days when everything is going remarkably well? The kind where you have to stop and think to yourself, “This is going TOO well. Something is bound to go wrong.” That was Saturday for me. We took the girls to the zoo and we got there early enough that it was easy to park and get in and there weren’t many people there yet. The girls behaved, had fun seeing the animals, and giggled and played on the splash pad without drenching themselves. When we left, they were both so tuckered out that they fell asleep right when we put them in their carseats. At this point I started thinking something was awry. Could it really be going this well? But they both took nice, long naps on our way up to Heber. There, we stopped at Granny’s to get some burgers and shakes AND THEY STILL BEHAVED. Whoa. It was cray-zay. It turned out to be a fabulous day all around. But, as they say, all good things must come to an end. And in the wake of Saturday’s ever-so-glorious day was…Sunday.
The kids were cranky. They were overtired. They were whiney and nothing would satisfy them. But you know what? It was okay. Because that day, we made these crepes. And I gotta tell ya—they sure make life a little (okay, A LOT) sweeter. This crepe recipe has been in our family since we left France about 20 years ago. It is the creme de la creme of crepe recipes. These crepes are soft and chewy and just a little sweet. The perfect edible plates on which to slather your favorite jam, honey butter, peanut butter, or pretty much whatever sauce you want. Or sprinkle them with some powdered sugar and you’re good to go.
But the crepes were only half of what made Sunday morning fabulous despite the grouchy kiddles. The other equally as delicious and important half? Nutella Fondue. Yeah, f’reals. I just said it. Can you imagine anything more deliciously, decadently, scrumptiously, out-of-your-mind, awesomely fabulous? It’s super easy to whip up and is such a perfect companion to these crepes.
A couple things about this crepe recipe: I made the crepes in a 10-inch fry pan, but you can use a smaller or bigger pan depending on the size you want your crepes to be. Also, these crepes are best for sweet toppings, like Nutella, powdered sugar, fruit, and whipped cream. If you’d prefer to make some crepes to use for something savory like breakfast burritos (which I strongly recommend) or wraps, you can omit the vanilla and sugar.
Any way you serve these babies, they’ll become a fast family favorite.
- FOR CREPES:
- 6 eggs, beaten
- 3 cups milk
- 1½ tsp salt
- 3 cups flour
- 6 Tbsp butter, melted
- 2 Tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla
- ½ Tbsp butter
- FOR NUTELLA FONDUE:
- ½ cup Nutella
- ½ cup heavy cream
- FOR CREPES:
- In a large bowl, whisk all ingredients (except the ½ Tbsp butter) together. Let sit for 15 to 20 minutes.
- Heat 10-inch fry pan over medium heat and add butter.
- When butter is melted, scoop out about ⅓ cup of crepe batter and pour into pan, swirling it in pan to completely cover the bottom.
- When edges of crepe begin to separate from pan and bottoms start to turn golden brown, flip.
- Cook for an additional minute or so, until other side is golden brown.
- FOR NUTELLA FONDUE:
- Spoon Nutella into medium bowl.
- Pour heavy cream into microwave-safe dish and microwave 1 minute or until very hot.
- Slowly whisk cream into Nutella until mixed well and smooth.

I’ll pretty much eat anything with Nutella, but then you made fondue out of it so I can drink it with a straw! Yay!

Yep, these totally do the trick! Kids could be screaming and tearing the house apart, making a mess. But if you have this Nutella fondue, it’s all good. I like your idea of hiding in the bathroom. Pull the shower curtain closed and hide in the tub. 🙂 I might have to try that!

I am literally eating Nutella off a spoon as I read this. So HELL YEAH I want to know how to make Nutella Fondue. Crepes. Hmmmm…thinking and shuddering at the same time. Will I be able to pull these off??? I mean, I remember my mom making crepes, and the first twenty didn’t turn out too great, and she had a ‘crepe’ pan. Will they be balls of crepe?
Oh, what does it matter I’ll still stick them into the Nutella Fondue so…why not? What am I saying? I’ll probably just make the fondue and shove anything in my cupboard into it….or maybe just a spoon and some girly movies. Oh…did I just share TOO much?
I’m in. I’ll try them soon and report back. Thanks for the Nutella love.

Hey Lorena, you’re totally going to love the Nutella Fondue. It’s so easy and so DELISH! I like your idea of making a bowl and popping in a chick flick! The crepes are super easy too. You don’t even need a crepe pan. Make sure to let the batter sit for about 15 minutes after mixing it. They’ll turn out great!
