Packed with all kinds of goodies, Cranberry Chutney is slightly sweet and slightly tart—and perfect for Thanksgiving dinner!
With Thanksgiving coming up quickly (I mean, it’s next week, people!), I’m sure many of you are talking turkey and busy planning your Thanksgiving menus. And while turkey is indisputably the star of the show, you can’t forget the ever-important sides. Mashed potatoes, gravy, rolls, and cranberry sauce.
To be honest, when it comes to the players in the Thanksgiving menu game, I feel like cranberry sauce is often the one left on the benches. It can’t run like turkey, can’t throw like mashed potatoes, and isn’t as agile as gravy. Definitely not an all-star player. So I can totally understand why many people opt for canned cranberry sauce as a quick and easy solution.
But I’m telling you there’s a better way, friends. It’s this Cranberry Chutney. Chock full of cranberries, tart apple, onion, golden raisins, and all other kinds of goodies, it is SO MUCH MORE than cranberry sauce and the perfect accompaniment to your roast turkey. It’s slightly sweet, slightly tart, and has a little bit of a kick, imparting a variety of flavors and textures to dazzle and tantalize your turkey-craving taste buds.
Best part? You can just throw all the ingredients together in a pot and let it simmer while you go about your other Thanksgiving prep activities. Get ready to Gobble, Gobble it up! 🙂
- 1-1/4 cup sugar
- ½ cup water
- 1 12-oz pkg fresh cranberries
- 2 medium tart apples, peeled and finely chopped
- ½ medium onion (about 1 cup), chopped
- ½ cup golden raisins
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ¼ cup cider vinegar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- ¼ tsp salt
- ⅛ tsp allspice
- ⅛ tsp cloves
- Zest from 2 medium oranges (about 2 Tbsp zest)
- In a large saucepan over medium heat, bring sugar and water to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for about 3 minutes. Stir in the remaining ingredients.
- Return mixture to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 20-25 minutes, pressing cranberries to "pop" them as they soften. Remove from heat and serve warm or cold.

this would be delicious except for the onion…strong onion aftertaste (and I even used less than you called for). I’d highly highly recommend none at all
